Search

Located at the top of the home tab. Type the first few letters of a keyword (e.g. 'police', 'bike', 'diy'), then click the word in the category you are interested in to display it on the map.

Find an address or place-name by typing part of it and pressing the enter key.

Map Controls

Zoom: Enlarge and shrink the map.

Full screen (ALT-ENTER): Maximise the map to fit your whole screen.

Show your location: See your current location if you are within the bounds of the map. You may click on the blue location marker to see what places are around you.

Address search (CTRL-F): Enter a place-name or a part of an address into the search box. A selection will appear if multiple results are found.

Panoramic views: Browse Mapillary Street Level images by clicking the highlighted areas.

Show bookmarks: Displays any saved POIs on the map. Right-click will copy your bookmarks as a shareable link.

Clear layers (CTRL-DEL): Remove all current layers on the map. Right-click will reload the website to defaults.

Various styles and historic map overlays can be displayed using the layer selector - located at the top-right of the map.

Context-menu

Anywhere on the map, right-click (desktop) or long-press (mobile).

Query feature: Display information on the feature under the cursor.

Add walk point: Plot a marker to create a walking route.

Centre map here: Useful when creating a bookmark or link.

Leave a note here: Report a mistake or something missing.

FixMyStreet: Opens a new window to report problems in the community.

Panoramic view: View Mapillary Street Level / Google Street View images at this location.

Coordinates: Copy the GPS and Grid Reference to clipboard.

Places Tab

Select an interest to be displayed on the map. Up to 3 groups can be displayed, after a few moments the corresponding markers will appear on the map.

Results will be displayed as a scrollable list and on the map as markers. The buttons at the top allow you to clear the results, or zoom to their area on the map.
Each listed item will have a colour showing if the place is currently open; its facilities and accessibility; and distance if location is turned on.

Each marker on the map can be clicked showing a pop-up detailing more specific information.

Edit with OpenStreetMap: Opens a new window where you can make immediate changes to the place using the OSM iD editor.

Bookmark: This will save/delete the place on your browser's memory.

Walking Tab

Select from a few set walks, or create your own path through the many twittens. Find a route by either entering an address, or using the map context-menu. Add additional markers by dragging an existing path to a new location.

History Tab

History: Travel back in time and discover the history of the town with this interactive guide. Navigate by either selecting from the list-box or using the arrows to jump between articles.

Show on map: Displays an interactive layer related to the article.

Then and Now Tab

Then and Now: See how places have changed over the years and what they may look like if they were still here today.

Click on an image or marker to enlarge it, the slideshow will automatically advance after a few seconds. You can pause, close or advance the current image using the controls on the page.

Bexhill-OSM is part of a community of mappers that want to create a free, editable map of the world. You can learn about the global project at the official OpenStreetMap website.

This independent website looks to continuously archive Bexhill as it stands today; heralding history, community and business in an informative, accessible form.

Although Bexhill-OSM is not a business directory as such, nor a place for direct advertising, we do welcome listings on all publicly visitable places.
